The modern digital world offers a variety of ways to get high quality content. Of course, most ordinary users are not very interested in this, but even a person outside of a computer may notice that the number of new audio and video file formats has increased significantly. In particular, the MKV format has gained immense popularity in recent years. More scientifically, this is a special container file.

As you can see from the title, this file is used to store information in a “packaged” form. Most video files are not very compact and therefore are compressed with special encoders for ease of use. The quality of this compression is characterized in many ways by the form of MKV mentioned by us.
In the early 1990s, the computer industry began to take its first steps in this direction. In particular, at that time Microsoft created the extremely popular AVI (Audio Video Interleave) to date. And so far this discovery has been a big step forward, but to date the capabilities of the old encoder are clearly insufficient. However, what is so good about the MKV format? First of all, you can save several audio tracks in different languages at the same time, you can create separate chapters and even a full menu. Also, if necessary, it is easy to “extract” sound and video from it. But the main difference from the old AVI is that the appearance of the MKV format, even in the form of some gigabyte files, will never worry about “switching” and slowing down.
Of course, this only applies to fairly powerful machines, because on older computers your favorite movie can become a real presentation. You also need a regular graphics card for comfortable viewing.

First of all, you should say that even advanced users consider the main contents of the container to be MP4 files, although this is not the case. The following types of audio and video files can be entered in “matryoshka”: MPRG, H264, AVC1, WMV, etc. Keep in mind that the program used for the MKV format (media player) must support them perfectly. VLC, KMP and Totem (for .nix systems) are ideal for this. However, MKV support has recently gained other types of players.
Another great innovation was the big one. “Matryoshka’s resistance to errors, the constant updating of the form by the developer community, and the transparency that made possible even the lobby of proprietary code makers, who even recently opposed the introduction of support for the MKV format on modern Blu-ray players.
