Digital Converters<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In recording studios there are 2 types of digital converters:<\/p>\n<p>Those that are an independent device, which are normally seen in more advanced studies, or &#8230;<br \/>\nThose that are integrated into the audio interfaces, which are usually seen in home studios.<br \/>\nTo convert the audio to binary code, they take tens of thousands of samples (samples) per second to make an \u201capproximate\u201d image of the analog waveform.<\/p>\n<p>The image is not accurate because in the intervals between samples, the converter basically has to guess what is happening.<\/p>\n<p>Digital waveform<\/p>\n<p>As you can see in the diagram, in which:<\/p>\n<p>the red line is the analog signal, and &#8230;<br \/>\nthe black line is the conversion &#8230;<br \/>\nThe results are not perfect, but they are good enough to generate excellent sound quality.<\/p>\n<p>How excellent? Sample Rate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Check out this image:<\/p>\n<p>sample rate diagram<\/p>\n<p>As you can see\u2026<\/p>\n<p>When taking more samples per second, the highest sampling rate:<\/p>\n<p>Collect more real information,<br \/>\nGo less to the estimate, and<br \/>\nIt generates a much more accurate image of the analog signal.<br \/>\nLogically, the end result is &#8230; better sound quality.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s talk about specific data:<\/p>\n<p>Normal sampling frequencies in professional audio range around:<\/p>\n<p>44.1 kHz (audio CD)<br \/>\n48 kHz<br \/>\n88.2 kHz<br \/>\n96 kHz<br \/>\n192 kHz<br \/>\nThe minimum of 44.1kHz is due to a mathematical principle known as &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The Nyquist-Shannon Sampling Theorem<\/p>\n<p>To record digital audio accurately, converters have to capture the entire human listening spectrum, which is between 20Hz &#8211; 20kHz.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Nyquist-Shannon Sampling Theorem &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>To capture a specific frequency, at least 2 samples are needed for each cycle &#8230; to measure both the upper and lower points of the sound wave.<\/p>\n<p>That means that recording frequencies of up to 20kHz require a sampling rate of 40kHz or more, which explains why the audio CDs are just above that minimum, at 44.1kHz.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mp4gain.com\/mp4gain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Nyquist-Shannon-Sampling-Theorum-e1417204136720.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-356\" src=\"http:\/\/mp4gain.com\/mp4gain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Nyquist-Shannon-Sampling-Theorum-e1417204136720-269x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mp4gain.com\/mp4gain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Nyquist-Shannon-Sampling-Theorum-e1417204136720-269x300.png 269w, https:\/\/mp4gain.com\/mp4gain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Nyquist-Shannon-Sampling-Theorum-e1417204136720.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 269px) 85vw, 269px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>62c-digital audio When recording at home began to become popular &#8230; It happened for a simple reason: The analog equipment of the past decades was being slowly but inexorably replaced &#8230; For a new generation of audio interfaces and other digital equipment that was cheaper and easier to use.
