Hence, with the help of one N-bit word one can describe<br \/>\n2<br \/>\n\ud835\udc41 different meanings. Let the amplitude of the digitized signal fluctuate in<br \/>\nwithin the range from 0 to 1 of some conventional units. Imagine this range<br \/>\namplitude changes in the form of 2<br \/>\nEqual intervals. Now, for everyone&#8217;s record<br \/>\nseparate amplitude value, it must be rounded to the nearest<br \/>\nquantization level (see quantization noise). This process is called<br \/>\nquantization in amplitude (level). Amplitude quantization &#8211; process<br \/>\nreplacement of real values \u200b\u200bof the signal amplitude with values \u200b\u200bapproximated to<br \/>\nsome precision. Each of 2<br \/>\n\ud835\udc41 possible levels is called a level<br \/>\nquantization, and the distance between the two nearest quantization levels<br \/>\ncalled the quantization step. If the amplitude scale is divided into levels<br \/>\nlinearly, then the quantization step is \u2206 =<br \/>\n1<br \/>\n2\ud835\udc41<br \/>\n&#8230; This way of digitizing a signal &#8211;<br \/>\nsampling of the signal in time in conjunction with the homogeneous method<br \/>\nquantization &#8211; called linear pulse code modulation (PCM)<br \/>\n(Linear Pulse Code Modulation &#8211; LPCM) or just PCM (PCM).<br \/>\nTo record sound on digital media or transmit via communication channels (see.<br \/>\nSPDIF interface) data in parallel code are encoded when<br \/>\nshift register, clocked by an auxiliary generator. This way<br \/>\nquantization is called logarithmic quantization. Using<br \/>\nlogarithmic amplitude scale, in the region of weak amplitude it turns out<br \/>\na greater number of quantization levels than in the region of strong amplitude (in this case,<br \/>\nthe total number of quantization levels remains the same as in the case of a uniform<br \/>\nquantization). The relative error is const.<br \/>\nAn alternative A \/ D conversion method is<br \/>\ndifferential (difference) pulse-code modulation DPCM<br \/>\n(Differential PCM). In the case of DPCM, it is not the amplitude itself that is quantized,<br \/>\nand the difference between the current and the previous measured. In complete analogy with<br \/>\nPCM, difference PCM can be combined using both uniform and<br \/>\nand uneven quantization. For audio data, this type of modulation<br \/>\nreduces the required number of bits per count by about 25%.<br \/>\n3<br \/>\nDifference coding has many different options. For example, adaptive<br \/>\nDPCM (ADPCM, ADPCM) &#8211; a kind of DPCM with variable pitch<br \/>\nquantization. Changing the pitch allows you to reduce bandwidth requirements<br \/>\ntransmission at a given signal-to-noise ratio.<br \/>\nA block of digitized audio information can be written to a file without<br \/>\nchanges, that is, a sequence of amplitude values \u200b\u200bdescribing<br \/>\naudio waveform, i.e. uncompressed. For this it is usually used<br \/>\n.WAV format. Waveform Audio File Format (WAVE, WAV, from waveform) &#8211;<br \/>\na container file format for storing a recording of a digitized audio stream,<br \/>\nRIFF subspecies. This container is typically used to store uncompressed<br \/>\nsound in pulse-code modulation.
